thinking about getting some I have plenty of light but was wondering if you supposed to feed them at all and what

Green star polyps? They don't need to be fed at all. However, they do best under moderate to intense lighting and will not spread unless they have moderate to high current on them.
Under the right conditions they spread rapidly. The 1" piece I got 10 months ago is anow about 10" in diameter, with little star polyp colonies popping up all over the tank (no idea how that happened).
