Guard your Bulbs!

I need a partner. The Feds are going to confiscate our household incandescent bulbs and make us use the twisty fluorescents. What do you think will happen when they find out I'm blasting hundreds of watts at my reef tank? I'm looking for a partner to stash all the MH bulbs we can get our hands on and (in a couple of years) "just let the word out" that they are available......for a price. Its either that or Ecoxotic LED lighting.

I don't believe metal hallide bulbs fall in the incandescent classification....

But all that wattage will, its the electric consumption they want to control.
Only the incandescant bulbs will be done away with...meaning they won't be sold in stores anymore...read the bill.

Stashing metal halide bulbs may become futile once LED lighting takes off and becomes affordable for the common consumer.

Its like the health care bill; I don't want people to read it. MH will be next! Then federal electric meters on our tanks. How many carbon credits do I need to keep a tang...Oh the humanity!

I am seriously wondering about that...
What is really messed up is the amounts of toxins in the PC bulbs...

Its all about the carbon footprint! Next they'll want our heaters (very inefficient!) and pumps. But Algore's mansion ($30,000 annual elec bill) & jet are still off-limits!

I've heard that Ecoxotic (neat stuff!) competitors are right around the corner and that the technology isn't that tough, just a limited market. But using all that jet fuel to bring us fish......now if they could do something about grazing animal flatulence!

Halides are defiantly on their radar screen. Not sure if the politicians will be able to comprehend that despite their high energy usage they are still very efficient. Trading off a light bulb for a compact fluorescent makes good sense. But for industrial lighting which is what halides were created for there aren't a whole lot of alternatives. T5's work but is replacing one 250 watt halide with 4 54 watt T5's really helping the environment? Sure you cut down on energy usage a little and even get a little more light BUT how much energy does it take to create one halide as opposed to 4 T5's?

SW fishkeeping is expensive and either the Feds will subsidize it for everyone or the Green Police will just decide that we don't deserve a hobby that destroys the earth and it will be shut down all together. Now back to the cow farts that really do the damage....

So sad Amerika has become one of the socailist European countries.... Boy, they've found something that tugs at people's heart, the environment, and boy are they running with it. Of course the facts that they are fakeing the entire thing, and we're declining global doesn't matter...
Great, so instead of incandescent that might use a bit more electricity, we'll now have CFL's that I bet 90% of, will be disposed of improperly, doing a number on the environment...
Two things off the top of my head that CFL's can't do... On the front of our house, we have the those fake candle bulbs. Can't do that with fluorescent. Or, I don't keep an reptile or work in the food industry, but what any type of heat lamp?
I remember back to the Gore/Bush election, I was on a radio control forum. If Gore got elected, thank god he didn't, one of the things on his agenda, was to ban 2-cycle engines. I bet 2-cycles are next...

Dude, I totally saw a CF bulb in a pretzel heatlamp at walmart the other day. I didn't have my camera with me, (sucks) but I swear, pretzels under a pc heat lamp.

We're lucky to be here!! All this hysteria reminds me of that idiot, Paul Ehrlich, who had a book and giant cult following in the early 70s, predicting Doomsday because of the World's population growth. (Yeah, I'm that old). Everyone was going to starve to death. He and his book were accepted by much of the scientific community as gospel. I believe nothing in his writings came to be.
On a similar topic; I got our School Board to change a textbook several years ago. One of my kids had a Science book that said re-cycling paper saved the rain forest! Yeah, they make paper out of teak and mahogany trees shipped her to make paper! And its the season for all the protesters who don't know that real Christmas trees are grown on farms, just like corn. Buying a fake tree will not save the forests; "But, but, but, at least I had good intentions."

I wonder if would know a poplar tree if they saw one.

SrFisher, in the 30+ years you have been keeping SW fish, I can imagine you have seen some far reaching changes and advances...It would be nice if the hobby could continue to evolve and advance on it's own, but I don't think our current administration is interested in such freedoms.
