Heyy, so I know a lot of you have probably kept hippocampus erectus, and was wondering how many pairs could be kept in a 72 gallon bowfront aquarium, oh and what corals are compatible with seahorses?

I'd go with about 3 pair. Although, unless you want babies, get all females. No stinging corals or aggressive fish can be housed with seahorses. There is a very good compatability chart in the stickies of this forum.

You can't blindly trust the chart...it says pipefish are "safe" so while they are safe to get along with, they are wild caught and bring deseases the CB horses are not able to survive with. So if you find something you like, double check before you add it to the tank.
I got some knoby fingered leathers (2) and my horses love to use them as a hitch. The horses are so gentle the feather dusters don't retract when they hitch on them even when they are right in front of them. I also got three different types of Kenya trees.
Just about any branching non-stinging coral are ideal. I also have some mushrooms in there and a red (looks orange to me) frilly sponge. I planted some turtle grass it's alive and well but so far not spreading. In a 72g you can do quite a bit.

P.S.
Good luck on getting all females..LOL..The breeder told me she gave me all females, I have 1 female and 3 males.

Corals are just a thought right know because I hav never kept them, so I wanted to try my hand at reefkeeping and seahorses. As for the source, there is a breeder online that sells males, females, and unsexed horses for a fair price (at least I.thunk its fair). Is turtle grass able to grow under T5 lighting? and would those corals also be ok under that lighting?

I prefer corals to fake stuff because it does not get algae all over it for me to clean. I have T5 lighting with all the corals I mentioned. Turtle grass needs a deep sand bed and lots of nutrients, I bought some sediment to plant my turtle grass in, and mixed it with my sand.

Yay! I'm excited, except I have to wait until my lion outgrows the tank and then I have to find a good home for him and the two eels before I can start setting the tank up for seahorses. I'll have to think about the turtle grass, because I don't have a really deep sand bed, maybe one inch or so. The website also sells their seahorses trained onto frozen mysis and cyclop-eeze so I won't have to worry about feeding live.

Just be sure they are captive bred and not tank raised. I know a few breeders but many of the sites that sell horses cheap are not captive bred. What state are you in???
