I came home to a fire damage in my house. My 75 gallon tank had a problem. The power strip got wet im guessing when i wasn't home. Anyways one tank went down and i have four others to worry about. I saw soot in all four tanks. I did a 20% water change in each. with two reef and two fowlr tanks i need to know if this was enough. The tanks have been filtering for about an hour. I do not see soot in the water, but im still worried. Anyone with any info please help.

u might want to also change any filter pads/floss that u have in ur system so the soot does not just stick there and dissolve. is the rest of ur house ok ?

fish and corals are looking good. I have on acan colony that isn't looking so hot. I will do another water change probably tomorrow. Luckily the tank that had the problem put itself out. Fd was never called. House is ok. Lots of soot but i work for a restoration company. Sucks I lost a 75 gallon tank, protien skimmer, fuge, powerheads, lighting, and everything else included in this hobby.

The fish in the tank are ok. I had to porky's, and green bird. I put all 3 in another fowlr tank that i have. Puffers were fine but my triggers attacked the green bird. Moved the green bird to a smaller tank for xenia. I have 3 firefish in that tank. Now I have zero. The second he hit the tank he killed everything. I was going to bring him to the lfs tomorrow. I just wish he could have acted nice for a day. Oh well i cant win today.

Wow. And think, it probably only takes one drop of water. Makes me want to go home and make a cover for all the electrical... Glad you didn't lose it all!

+ a million on putting itself out.
How did that happen, melf a bit of the tank and enough water got on it to acutally put it out, or just ran out of things to burn?
