Hagen Powerheads

I was looking at purchasing two new powerheads for my 92 gallon. I was told that the Hagen 402's do an excellent job. The Hagen 402's that I was looking at are the Hagen 402 Quickfilter. THey have a filter attached to them. Is this what I want to buy, or do I want ones without the filter attached? I have never used powerheads in my tank so I am not familiar with them. Any help. THanks.

the hagens with the filters are extremely bulky, and would take up a good part of the tank, not to mention the maintenance and detritus problems, i would only use the one's without
HTH,and for a tank that size, i would have at least 3 ro 4 powerheads, i have 5 in my 75 gallon, 2 larger adn 3 smaller ones
HTH

im not sure the dim. of a 92 ? but my 180 6x2x2 has 2 802 p heads. works good but i want 1 more in the middle. fshub is correct with the filter part, but you can take the filter element out and just run the screen. that what i did! you could also cut them down to make them shorter. just super glue the cap back on. hope this helps! :)

a 75 gallon(standard) is 48 by 18 by 22 high(i think 22 high, maybe 23, i did not measure, but am guessing from memory)
the 402 are rated at up to 270 gph
and the 802 are for up to 400 gph(i have both pumps and boxes right here)
i myself like to target a minimum of 10 times your gallonage per hour combined in all sources(skimmers folters, sumps and powerheads, inside the tank), and enough to eliminate any dead spots, so anyhow, in a 75 gallon that would be at least 2 402 powerheads and another source, but you still have to eliminate any dead areas, if there is any rock in a 75, then you would need at least 3, with no rockwork or any obstruction 2 may be fine(possibly), the key is more not to have any calm areas which are uncirculated
andin a 180, i would want at least 1800 gallons(minimum), in a reef system i would not be affraid to go to 20x or more(my 75 has a litttle over 1300 gph total)
oh, anohter thing, what are you using for filtration, if you are using a sump the return also could figure in as a source, as could a skimmer(it all works together), AND if you are using a wet dry or ugf, instead of relying on the bio filter, you may need less(i just prefer the natural bio filter, which is what i actually base my reccomendations on here)

fshhub, you amaze me! :D but yes i have a 2400gph sump pump that i did not mention that puts me around 2400 with the power heads and -5' for the sump pump . but it does'nt look that strong(curent). is'nt a 92 a corner tank? :)

how's that(i hope it is in a good way), i am not bothering you?? i hope, just covering the bases, srry i though he had a 75 or a 90, i over looked that
anyhow, the 92 is normally a corner, at 35x35x32, yes, so then you are definitely correct, 2, but at hte minimum, as long as they also have something else to mose the water near the surface too ;)
i do really hope you meant that good, i am not trying to argue(i am really peaceful, just want to help out), just cover things, that is all, i realy do think you are alright(in my book)

dude, fshhub , yes in good way! how do you remember all that. i have the basic idea, but you have the numbers locked in your head( good stuff)! corners are tuff, but i would try to fit 3 402 or two 802 and definetly supliment it with a sump pump to get the front and middle.
fshhub i'll meet you in the playground at lunch!
seriosly though fshhub i,ve never herd(seen) you give bad advice! trust me when i type "i,m never mad on this sight(execept when i cant order from here!)"
you did it again, how do you know those dim.!
peace as always! :)

cool,as for hte numbers, i have an affinity(sp?) for numbers, always have, grew up in the service, and can still remember all the phone number(minus the area codes, when smaller), but sometimes, i do cheat a little too(i admit it, sometimes), but after that it sticks, i have a memory almost as good as my cannon(LOL), but numbers are my forte, i love thm and almost never forget, but if i do, it is only once never 2d time, as for the 75, it is somewhere between 20 and 23, i can't tell with the trim, otherwise..., one day i will ook it up though(maybe now,it is bugging me, LOL)
;)
edited: i was real close, 21.5 inches, lol

I run a 600GPH filter on my tank right now. If I add 2 402's at 270GPH that would be a total circulation of 1140GPH on a 92 gallon corner tank. I am planning on adding around 130lbs of LR to this tank eventually, when I come up with the extra $600.00. Thanks for the help.

that will be fine, as long as the powerheads and filter can insure no calm areas, you need the water to be moving, so set it up and go from there, sounds good though

Well, I have the hagens and while they are excellent PH's, too me they are way to bulky. And when you add on the filter screen, even more so.
I use maxijets now 1200. Which are great.
