I set up my refum three weeks a go and I have hair algae growing in there, only in refum not in DT. Do I clean it out or let it grow it is a type of macro and my purpose is to lower nitrates? My DT is void of any algae at all since I have three tangs algae doesn't stand a chance to grow.

polo!...
green hair like type algae's are pretty much the desired algae to have for scrubbers these days. it's a great filter just not as easy to harvest as other algal options. i'd let it grow out a little bit and then harvest. The little bit that does take hold in the display is like free food for the tangs.

I was think the same thing.
Sorry Seth, I did remove it last night but I know it will grow back.

No apologies necessary. I was just kidding.
Yes, most likely it will come back. Just keep harvesting it. Maybe add in some actual macroalgae to see if you can cut down on it some. If hair algae takes over the fuge, consider setting up an underwater algae scrubber anyways.

I have a ball of Chaeto in there. Don't need a scrubber, algae is growing every where.

My chaeto stopped growing - despite iron additions and changing the bulbs.
I haven't ever really been able to grow chaeto like it is supposed to be grown. My ball always floats. LOL
First I tried to grow Gracilarva, I cooked it with to strong of a light. I got chaeto because it was the only thing they had at LFS, mine is at the bottom of fuge for now. I replace the bulb with 75w pig tail bulb daylight, it isn't hot and the algae seems to be doing fine.

Chaeto decided to grow these last couple days. I separated the ball into strings everywhere boy it was like a kick in the butt for now. Adding pods now... You know I don't know what I'm doing.
