Sounds like you have an excess nutrient problem.
When was your last water change?
What type of water do you use for top offs?
How old are your lights? How long are they on?
How often do you feed and what type of food?
What were your last test results?
I would do a water change and if the problem persists would cut back on lighting a few hours.

I just had a small patch start on my filter intake, I used a pair of tweezers and plucked it out. It can get out of control if you let it go.

I had a few patches of hair algae too. I went to my local fish store and bought something called SAT. It is a bacteria that eats all the nutrients that the algae eats, causing the algae to die although i think it is for aquariums with a lot of it. It comes in a bottle. It works.

I had the same problem so I went back to the basics. Less feeding, frequent water changes and changing the bulbs every 8-10 months. I got comfortable with my system because everything was working out great but when you stray away from the basics it can lead your tank to undesirable conditions.
