a drop in salinity wouldn't decrease phosphates, but aren't algaes salinity specific?

Get some phosphate remover in the system. You may consider five 10%-15% water changes over the next two to three weeks. I would use purified water. RO water is always a good idea.

i'm not trying to discuss causes or cures for hair algae. i'm trying to discuss algae growth at lower than normal salinities.

take a small peice of rock out with hair algae on it and do hypo on that . i would be interested in what u find
