Hi everyone, I have a 12 gallon nano tank with 2 little clown fish. Well I've had my salinicity level under control for a while and recenlty added some real ocean water from a local fish store that had some nutrients in it that are great for corals. Those are doing good, but now im starting to get a infestation of green hairy algea. Does anyone know a way to get rid of this junk that growing on my rocks. Can I try and rip it off, or something else that works better?
Thanks for any advice!!

Hello, Mark. Welcome to the forums!
Likely "real salt water" is not the best thing to do. What are your nitrate and phosphate levels? Do you have Live Rock??
I'm going to move you over to our nano forum, where you can get some specialized help for your type tank.

when you say real ocean water do you mean the " real ocean" water from pet co.?
If so than I dont really think thats the problem I used that water for about a year and never had any problems related to the water I think that the "real ocean" water is great for nanos.
as for your hair algae problem...(I am assuming that it is hair algae)
what are your nitrates at? also what kind of water do you top off with?

As far as the water. I live in northern california near the beach so we have a local specialized salt water fish store where they pull in their own water from the pacific. So this is what Ive been using as they say its got a lot of good stuff in it. And apparently really salty. As far as topping off Ive been using reverse osmosis water that I get at the store.
As far as nitrates i just did it and it read below 10. I try to do regular water changes about ever week and a half. And been doing a say 60% ocean water and 40% osmosis water.
Thanks for any other ideas and the help!!
And yes Ive been using live rock from Figi and indo..
