Halloween Candy rip off

Well the wife and I went shopping tonight and decided to purchase our stock of Halloween candy for the trick or treaters that will be coming to our door this year.
Let me tell you guys something. I used to be a garden shop/seasonal manager at a department store, so I used to lug tons of this candy out and setup shelves and displays of it.
I picked up a some bags of simple fun size candy bars, popular styles like snickers, baby ruth and milky way. They were mighty light or so my brain told me. I began looking at the weights of the bags. 10.5 to 13 ounces. I thought what the heck? These bags used to be 13 to 14 ounces or so. My wife also picked up a bag or so and had the same strange look on her face as though something were not right. She agreed that the were less in weight. We looked and looked and really didn't find any 13 ounce bags in the display in front of us either.
All I can figure is that corporate America is ripping us off again. Every bag of candy I picked up that we usually picked up every year was lighter. How's that for a kick in the teeth America, get less ~ pay more. Why am I surprised?
Perhaps I'll go to handing out nickles like some of those older folks used to do when I was a kid.
My rant is over, but this is my experience here in Michigan this year, perhaps its different where you are.......Whats yours?

But Beth I though that was the point of Halloween anyway, share some with the kids and feast on what is left, then pay the dentist!

its one of two things........
1. the dissapearing act of our products. Notice how 1/2 gallon ice cream is
no longer a 1/2 gallon?
OR
2. Your just so big and strong, which is the answer I would like to believe.

I for one saw a huge bag of mini play dough containers for 7.00 at Sams.
I think I am going to get some of that for the smaller kids and the usual (the things I like
) for the bigger kids.

I'm in agreement about the net weight of the bags. We get over 500 kids on Halloween night so our candy budget is pretty high. We used to give out the regular sized bars but the fun size is enough given the volume of trick or treaters. Have you priced pumpkins yet? No cheap date here either.

Yeah, I just bought 2 at 2.98 a piece. Last year they were real cheap.

i worked in the Grocery biz for almost 15 years... this is a marketing ploy and here is how it often works... the candy company will reduce the size of the actual candy bars so it seems like we are getting the same amount... then they will bring out a bag size that is slighty larger than this bag and put "33% MORE!" and in fine print it will say than the 10.5 oz bag... and if you notice the price doesnt drop at all... the smaller bag will be like 2.79 and the larger bag will be like 3.09... then a couple mos down the road they will sometimes reintroduce the original size in a 25% MORE FREE package... so it seems like your getting something for free but in reality 6 mos ago it was the same package... you will see ALOT of this in the HABA section...
IMO the best bag of candy for the $$$ is the $9.99 bag of hersheys or nestle that typically has 4 different kinds of candy bars... get em at like Cost Co or Sams Club...

Your exactly right, Speed Stick deodorant is another example of a shrinking product with a rising price.

Same thing with bags of chips. I picked up a bag of Tostitos the other day...almost half of the bag was air...couldnt believe it. And, they're charging like $4.50 per bag?!?

Yah. If someone tried to give my little brothers some "homemade" candy when I take them trick-or-treating, I'd dump it out of their bags before we even get down the sidewalk.
As for candy going up in price... Nothing's changed in our area - how strange!

it doenst necesarily go up in price... but it does in price per ounce... they slowly shave ounces off and dont lower the price...
i remember when the size of a "Fun Size" was like 1/3 of a regular candy bar... now its like the size of a "Mini" when they first came out and now the "minis" are the size of a jolly rancher...
