Halogen Lighting

Is it possible to use a halogen (300 watt) light that a place like Home Depot sells to increase the lighting on a 135 gallon tank that is currently lighted with 4 - 96 watt power compact lights (2 white, 2 blue). The light can be mounted with a clamp on the top rim of the tank.

Halogen will produce a lot of the red spectrum which some of your corals may not like!

halogens also produce alot of heat-watch the temp.

Hi,
basically the answer to that is no. Check out a post on www.reefs.org which covered this subject about 4 days ago. Basically they are nowhere near as powerful as MH and also they produce the wrong spectrum of light.
