Hammer Baby

I got a hammer about a month ago. It looked less than great when I got it, it was half deflated. Now, it looks absolutely amazing. Anyway, when I got it, it looked as if it was at one point really big, there are a lot of dead stocks, like empty skeleton all around it.
Today, while admiring it, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a VERY tiny little spec of green. Upon further investigation, I saw what looked like a miniature hammer coral...just in the middle of an empty stock.
Now I'm wondering, is this just the result of some barely living flesh making a comeback after the tank conditions for it improved...
Or is it new? Did the coral frag itself?

I also wanted to know how I can spread this coral to the empty spaces that are all over.
Thanks!

IME, it will grow new branches. If it has dead branches they will stay dead. Mine started with three branches two alive and one dead. It now has 18 branches and the one that was dead is still dead. The new growth you see was probably enbedded already and you are just now seeing it.

it will grow new branches like said above or heads will split. most fo the time both will happen under proper conditions. it is possible there was a not fully dead head they just revived itself
