I made the mistake recently of placing a yellow worm too close to my green hammer coral. The next day, the area where there was contact had "brown jelly" on it and the polyps were dissolving. About a half square inch. Anyway, I took a tooth brush and carefully removed the jelly and then scrubbed the bare skeletal area which was completely white so that there was no sign of anything foreign left on the coral. Then I blew the power head across the area for about 15 minutes. Then I squirted Kent's iodine a couple of times right across the infected area, hoping this might disinfect some how. Lastly, I covered over the bare skeleton with epoxy that is used to secure corals to rock. This was all sort of kitchen science, but I was thrilled to see the coral open the next day and look pretty healthy. I don't know what the long term prognosis will be, but right now it seems to have helped.
This method is the closest I could come to what Delveek/Sprung suggest in "The Reef Aquarium" Just thought I'd pass it along.
