Hammer coral question

A few of the polyps on my hammer coral are starting to get really long. I mean 4" long and seem to sting my pagoda cup if they touch it. I moved it away from the pagoda but was just wondering if this is normal behavior. Looks kind of strange with all the polyps being the same length and then three or four polyps much longer

it does need some room...some hammer corals have long tentacles...others do not...anyways, give the hammer plenty of room.

Yes it is normal. Those are the sweeper tentacles used to sting nearby corals to keep them at bay.
The coral is pretty much saying, hey keep out of my space or I'll sting your a**. :D
