I have a 36" 250w MH with dual pc fixture and i was having your same problem i bought the suspension kit from the company and im really happy with it it allows easy maintenance and it allows you to set how high you would like your lights for things like temp, more lighting or less. things like that but all in all its up to you but in my opinion i would go with the manufactures suspension kit for warranty issues and things like that.
Also the pulleys make it really easy to raise and lower

theres nothing scary about it, just make sure its secure.. hanging is way better than sitting on those lamo legs. (plus you'll get less heat issues when hanging them from ceiling)those legs are not even tall enuff. leaving u no room to do any aquascaping and regular maintenance in tank..and everytime u add livestock, and float bags on water surface you will nuke them, cause the bags will be so close to the lights.

+2 on getting the hanging kit, I hung my fixture from the ceiling for the same reasons.
Just make sure you cover the tank while your working above it putting holes in the ceiling. Don't want any drywall dust falling in.
Good Luck

I hung my fixture from the ceiling also, not hard at all. My dad came over and we had it done in about 30 mins. I would recommend getting a GOOD hanging kit though. Do not cheap out on that part because the one that came with my light set isn't a good one at all, and i have had some serious problems with it. It has fallen one time, and freaked me out.

i would ask your light provider about warranty issues with the kit and also its up to you how high or how low you want it and how it works the best with your setup
