Happy New Year

Just wishing any jewish people a happy Yom Kippur and an easy fast. I have to admit, it's early on and I'm already pretty thirsty. But at least my sins will be forgiven tomorrow night. In my line of work I should probably be happy I'm not fasting for a week or more.

Modeh ani lifanekha melekh hai v'kayam shehehezarta bi nishmahti b'hemla, raba emunatekha.
I give thanks before You, Living and Eternal King, that You have returned within me my soul with compassion; abundant is Your faithfulness!

Just a couple more hours to go. My sins for the year are almost washed away.
Maybe I'll commit a couple tonight while I have a clean slate.

i really have to tell you this:
thank you for wishing us (the jews on the board) happy new year. however, the new year is celebrated with rosh hashana. 10 days before yom kippur. yom kippur is actually the day of repentance. the holiest day of the year for jews.
please don't take this as a scolding. i am just correcting the misconception.

Thanks for the clarification and, of course I know that Rosh Hashonah is technically the new year. However this is a common greeting on Yom Kippur also (you do know they're only 8 days apart). I don't take your post as a scolding at all... just a silly, trivial bit of know-it-all-ness.
Happy New Year.

He's a preacher and he is becoming a rabbi? How does that work? Did he convert?
I'm not trying to be disrespectful here. I am Jewish and I am just curious how he is doing that.

I have never used the Jewish date for any reason. Actually I had to look it up. But I don't really consider our calendar to be "Christian". Although its roots to come from Christian principles, the calendar has been adopted worldwide and is pretty secular IMO.

Actually, it's the Roman (Julian) calendar if I'm not mistaken, and NOT the "Christian" calendar...
