Harlequin tusk dilemma.

I need info on harlequin tusks. I get mixed reviews on fish sites about it's temperment and minimum aquarium size. Some websites say that harlequin tusks can be in 55 gallons, while others say they have to be kept 125 gallons. Puzzling.

Best thing to do is to research the fish itself. Base the better judgment on its maximum size and aggressiveness. Since the animal can reach upwards of a hefty 10 inches. If you plan on keeping it alone I'd go with at least 75 gallons. If you plan on putting it with other fish (since it seems to be a carnivore) then it'd make sense to have 125 gallons or better.
You can never have to much water. Bigger tanks always seem better when your new to the hobby or to a fish. It allows for slower negative changes in most cases. Its mainly what you can afford however that dictates what you end up with.

I love these fish and have kept them for years. They are big, robust fish that become more active over time; they take a while to really acclimate and become bold. I would never keep one in anything less than a 125. Also; I'd get an Australian, rather than an Indo-Pacific specimen---the $ is well worth it. Not only are Aussies much better looking (IMO); they ,like all Australian fish, are well handled and very unlikely to be caught using cyanide----still a problem in areas of the "Indo-Pacific" region. As to temperament, they are not wussy, but seldom bother anything that doesn't bother them first. BTW, LA has a great side-by-side comparison of the two regional Tusks--the difference is obvious. The SWF. Com pic is an Aussie; but they sell the Indo-Pacific fish.

Good,
i might get a harlequin tusk, if I get the 120 tank I want. I hear they are hardy fish with a good personality.
