After going 4 weeks in the QT, the Harlequin Tusk has been in my DT for 1 week.
Notice that he would become a dolphin throughout the day. What I meant is he would rise above the water to get air.
All other fishes in the tank are fine.
Perfect chemical results.
Any idea?

Does he do this often? He may just be checking out his suroundings. They are jumpers so be careful of that. He is not going up for air, he is probably trying to jump. Is this a reef? I'm sorry, I don't recall what is in your tank other than the fish that you aquired from your friend. It is a large tank. Can you explain more about what is going on?

Does he lie on his side at night? Mine is doing this, I thought he was sick, but as soon as he saw the net he took off! They seem to do strange things at times...

During QT, he rested on the side at night and during the day. I firmly know this is a normal behavior.
Yes, this is a reef. Huge tank.
The first week in DT, he was shy.
Now he is longer hiding and moving full length of the tank.
May be he is getting "silverslide high". About 2 days ago, I fed the anemone a whole silverslide. This pig just took it from the anemone and gulped in one bite.
He ate this morning.
What other symptoms should I be looking for?
Thanks

Is he generally acting well and good color?
I have had some experience with similar fish doing this quite a lot, and don't tend to worry too much if otherwise they are behaving well.

as long as he is eating and looks healthy he should be ok, mine also lays on his side, sticks his head out of the water, and generally acts wierd. Over time he should become less skittish. normal indicators of problems sometimes dont apply to the wrasse family, as some of their favorite things to do can be signs of problems in other fish (like scratching on the sand and rocks).

Mine does this "porpoising"all the time. The one I lost in Katrina did also. He'll get completely vertical in the water and stick his blue teeth up against the eggcrate at feeding time; sometimes even spit water. These are magnificent fish, but no invert, even a snail, is safe.

Today, he even took a big big big gulp of the red algae sheet intended for the tangs and angels!
Thanks so so much

Good! They love chunks of fresh shrimp, squid, clam, etc. Also, freeze dried krill, soaked in Selcon, is a great way to get vitamins into them...they are very easy to get eating from a feeding stick, or your fingers! Is your tusk from Auatralia or the Indian Ocean?
