Are Harelequin Tusk fish a more delicate fish. I have had 2 of them die on me. Gave up on them for a while until I learn what went wrong. I thnk my first one died of cyanid poisoning and the second one got quickly attacked by ich - of which I am currently treating with Hypo.

.... wrasses in general are perdy hardy fish... i have a tsk and a lunnar.. they swim like crazy and fight all the time.. nothing to bad tho.. just a scale hea and there... and yes they are easy to feed.. they eat anything.. including your finger!!!!! u get a wrasse and say bye bye to your clean up crew tho...

Cut and paste from another website....
1) Country of Origin: Choerodon from Australian sources are best (these have bluish bordered red stripes and teeth) with a few other Indo-Pacific localities vying in consistent high-quality. Decidedly inferior are specimens hailing from the Philippines and Indonesia. Whether these are simply starved, otherwise mishandled or outright cyanided, the fact is on average they are relatively much shorter-lived; weeks instead of years. Are these fish better because they're cheaper?

naw.. they cost the same in my area... they are just better because of there color... u get more bang for your buck like... if tho fish cost the same and are the same size and species.. would u buy a duller one or the brighter better looking one??? .. that is pretty much what it comes down too...
ohh and on if tusk are reef safe?? well some are and some ar'nt... they dont really eat the coral to say... but they do eat all the clean up crew.. thats the only reason why they ar'nt reef safe.. but if u have a big enough tank then it would be ok...another thing that i have read but not personally tried is that sapossingly.. if the tanks inverts where introduced into the tank and established a 'safe zone/home' prior to introducing a tusk.. the tusk should'nt bother the inverts and suck too much...
i have a tusk, lunnar, clown trigger, nigar tirgger, and a juvi emp..... i kinda tested it out with snails and it seems to be ok..afther the snails made a 'safe place' but they only come out at night now.. i havnt tried hermit crabs or crabs yet but i will 1 day..
