Harvesting Local Sand Off the Beach

Can I dig up some sand off the beach and use as live sand? it doesn't get any fresher or liver than that:D
I live in SW Fl and can get as much as I want.

The sand that we see in any local beach tend to be contaminated, maybe not for us but to the fish that we have in our aquariums, specially if we have invertebrates in it. My recomendation is NOT to get it from your beach but to buy it. It will cost you more but trust me...it is worth it :)

I agree don't use it. There have been a lot of people asking about this and there is just to much of a chance that it could be polluted.

I did it in my FO, and it worked fine for me. Not to go against the crowd... im just sayin. :D

about 5 years ago i had a thriving reef tank and thought i would bring back a 1 liter bottle of fresh sand from the carribean.
i put it in my tank and everything died in a few days.
dont do it!!!!!

don't get caught the beach is protected from harvesting. The fine is big money and jail time. wink wink keep an eye out for green peace
