my lfs told me of putting slivers of lr in a marineland c220 canister where the bioballs go. can anyone tell me whats the benifit of this or a waste of time...

it's possible to add live rock rubble to canister filters, it actually has more surface then bioballs for breaking down waste. However, I would ditch a canister filter all together and go with an emperor biowheel or somethind similar. I have had a lot of problems with penguin biowheel filters.
