has your tank ever broken?

I'm in the process of buying my first tank. Probably will be 100 gallon+. The reason I ask is that i live on the 20th floor of an apt bldg. It would be very, very bad if 100 gallons of water started spilling out. I think I'm going to do acrylic to be extra safe, but just wanted thoughts on how often/rare it is for acrylic tanks to crack.
Thanks so much. This forum has been so helpful.

Please check with the appartment manager B4 you put that size of tank in there. they might have limits on size of tanks, weight issue, I wouldnt want to here about you having to sell because of downsizing problem I dont know exact but water is about 8.5 lbs per gal then weight of tank and everything else they get very heavy. you would have less of a chance of a acrylic tank cracking though. I sold a 125 gal to a friend full of Discus fish over 1K in fish alone it lasted three months till a base ball went into it and everything was on the floor in less than a second... sometimes kids and big tanks dont mix very well. I had a another friend that had a 150 and his little girl leaned back in her chair and fell over and went into the tank again a empty tank.. If you get it up and running take pictures lots of pictures from trying to fit it in the elevator to full set up with fish... have fun and good luck

I definitely wouldn't do a 100 gallon in an apt. on the 20th floor. BY the time you put 125 to 150lbs of live rock, 150lbs of sand, a sump of 30 gallons or so and the weight of the tank you will be upwards of 1500 to 1600lbs and I wouldn't trust that even on the 3rd floor. Water is 8.31lbs. per gallon plus the salt.
