Ok, so what do you say to someone who SERIOUSLY says to you...
"Can we get a turtle?" For What? "The tank." A Turtle? "Yeah." Do you know how big those things get, not to mention that most if not all are protected? "Oh. Well I heard that it takes years for them to get big." No, were not getting one.
Heres the kicker...
"Well, what about one of those, um, what do you call them? A um, a manatee? Is that the right word?"
So Im thinking, okay, he couldnt possibly be talking about a manatee. So I say..
They live in Florida? In the waterways?
"YEAH!"
Can you believe this?

hmmm, I take it these comments are not coming from a 5yr old...... otherwise, very normal requests from a child.
turtles- not very good pets, some tortoises actually do quite well in captivity and are very available as pets, they do get quite large and you have to be VERY diligent about diet and sunlight requirements.

No, this is coming from a 25 year old. Who happened to live in PR and FL! And who now lives on an island!

Hopefully there aren't some people out there with "Nemo" tanks that have added a "Crush."

Ok, sea turtle, maybe. I can see how people would think, yeah theyre small when theyre born. But a freakin manatee?
So I said, "How about Shamu? We can invite poeple over and charge them $5.00 to swim with it."

DVS - I feel I have to warn you. You must have at minimum a 100 gallon tank to safely keep Shamu. It will not be happy in a 72 gallon.
