Hey, my renaissance canister filter isn't working, I plug it in and it sounds like it's trying to start up and let the air out, but it's supposed to stop and start flowing regularly after like 2 minutes max. It's not doing this for me, I poured in the 1 cup of water needed to prime the filter but it still doesn't work. Can Canister filter's be overly packed, cuz i did put a long of filter media inside the filter. Thanks for any replies.

Hey there, I'm going to move your post over to our Equiptment Forum where I think you might get more help.
And yes, packing the canister tight with filter can inhibbit water flow. I'm not familiar with your brand canister, but is it new for you and you just haven't been able to get it started? Or are you just now having the problem with it after its been working?
Perhaps if you can tilt the canister on its side while running the water flow will get going.

I had it working about a year ago but after resetting up my tank, i can't get it to work, best of all, i don't have the manual for it anymore so im completely lost with all the little switches and what not on it, i have no idea what im doing, now when i turn it on, nothing happens, im not sure if cut off the water in some way...this is really frustrating....

Who is the manufacture of the canister? I suggest you contact them, or visit their website. I am sure they can send you a copy of the instruction sheet and give you advise on troubleshooting. Sometimes, if the manufacture has a webpage, they will even post their manuals in Acrobat format to download from the web. Give it a try, unless someone else here can help you out.

I have one of those filters and I allways fill it up with as much water as it will hold before I restart it. It may also just need a real good cleaning.Did you compleatly tear it down before you tried to restart it???Plus as Beth said, there may be too much filter media in it.It should be loosly packed in there...
