Ok I have a 110 gallon reef tank with 2 tangs and a scooter blenny as the current stocklist. My question is can I get a longnose hawkfish or another kind that will not eat my medium sized cleaner shrimp. Any suggestions will be greatily appreicated.

if you want one, make sure it is the last fish you will ever add to your tank. they will puck on tank newbies. it may pick at the shrimp, nut ya never know.

Maybe. This is another of those gray areas that depend on the individual fish. However; IME & IMO, I just wouldn't trust a longnose hawk with any shrimp. They like to just sit and wait, then chomp at anything that looks good. Their mouth is much bigger than it looks and they will bite chunks of what they can't swallow whole.

I knew I'd seen something like this before; I ran into it again. This is from Bob Fenner's "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist:" The longnose hawkfish....(yadda,yadda,yadda,......Cleaner Shrimp are a favorite prey item, at least in the aquarium".

Sure! I'm glad it works. There's a big difference in the aggressiveness of flame & longnose hawkfish. That's why (IMO) there are very few rules on what you can keep with what. Someone, somewhere, has kept every possible combination together. I think when we take a critter out of its natural environment, anything can happen. But, when someone asks for advice, I prefer to go with the experts and the odds........but you never know for sure what will happen. IMO, a longnose will probably kill a cleaner shrimp, but sometimes, maybe not. A flame would be a better choice. IMO, a 14 gal is too small for a flame, but if it works for you, great!

Good. IMO, flame hawks have about as much personality as any fish we keep.
