HD sand

I'd like to increase my sandbed from 2 inches, and make it between 4 -6 inches deep. Unfortunately, I live in AZ and they don't sell Southdown. Lowe's carries Quikrete playsand, but I'm not toooo fond of the color. I went to HD today and they have some white play sand made by Paragon Industries..... it says i'ts been washed. I saw some of it laying on the ground, and it looked like it had crystals in it ..... I thought of buying a 50 lb bag, but am not sure if I should buy it or not. My lfs carries regular sand made for saltwater aquariums, but I don't want to spend $100 on 100 lbs. How would I know if the sand at HD is any good? Do you do a vinegar test?

i have used that sand in my freshwater tank, up and running for 9 mths, no problems. the sand i used stated " cleaned, dried and sterile" play sand. i have also started a saltwater tank with that sand but only started the cycle, only have live rock no fish yet. i dont think it's going to be a problem. good luck
