Healthy Maze Brain?

I just got a new maze brain about a week ago and I don't know how to tell if its OK. And one more question, does it just eat sun light or can I feed it something else?

it will get a majority of its needs from lights. but feeding the brain is beneficial and help it grow faster.

Do I hold it on to their little mouths and wait for them to eat it or do they take it right away?
