Heat emergency in 12g nano

I just got home from work and found the outlet that supports the fans that blow over my tank are off.... In return my MH light brought the water temp up to 94 degrees. I turned the light off and brought a bigger fan to blow over the tank and am hoping that it will cool down. My corals are all closed up, but the fish seem fine. I know that high heat will stress the tank out. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to handle this........ please????

I think you want to bring the temp down slowly so it doesn't shock the system anymore than it is.

Im confident that it has been running at this temp for atleast 5 hours. how long do you think that it will have to maintain such a high temp to kill things in the tank?

a chiller can fail like my fans did. it maintains 80 without a chiller and two 5 inch fans. This is the first time this aquarium has gone above it, even with the halides. im not asking about how i can keep it cool for the future, but how to bring it down slowly and safely.

Float a SMALL amount of ice in a ziplock, or freeze a small water bottle and float that. Just be sure to keep an eye on the temp as not to bring it down to fast, maybe only use a few ice cubes in a bag or something.

well... after a few days the only corals I have lost were my xenia and the frogspawn. very minimal if you ask me. thanks for your help with the quick responses!

I would have thought the fish would have gone first considering the lack of oxygen. You must have a lot of flow.
In case of high temps or power outages this is what I do. I have three 12 ounce water bottles frozen. I rotate them putting one in at a time. This brings my temp down 1 degree per hour. In your case I think you were out of luck unless you stayed up all night attempting to drop the temp slowly. Glad to hear that your losses were minimal.

This happend to me to but all my fish/corals/inverts died. My 12gal got up to 100+ degrees and I couldn't do anything about it lost everything

. I would just get a Zip Lock and but a couple ice cubes to cool it down but do it slowly so it doesnt shock it anymore.
