I am about to add 2x250 watt halide bulbs to the tank and want to know how much it will heat the room up that the tank sits in. I was thinking of putting 2 of those small desk fans you buy from walmart inside the canopy. what do you all think

The fans will certainly help keep the canopy cool, but they don't do much for your room.
Halides are roughly 25% efficient. So 500W worth of halides turn 125w into light and 375w into heat. So it'll be like running a 375w heater in the room while they are on. Unless the room is very large, it will affect the rooms temperature to some extent.

the room is larger, dont know the exact dimensions and it has a vaulted ceiling as well. how much do you think it will affect it? the kitchen and it are connected by a wall that doesnt go to the ceiling. ill see if I can find our camera to take a pic to show the size of the room

It depends on so many things... ventilation, room sizes, insulation in the house blah blah blah blah blah... no way to really tell.
If the tank was closed in a bedroom or something, I'd say that it'll definitely be a demonstrable effect. In your situation, I can guess that it won't be bad, maybe not even noticable... but I could be wrong. You'll just have to try it and see.

i dont think in that size of room with the vaulted ceiling and the open door will be effected by the lights... they do put off a lot of heat but not that much, lol...
