Heater Choice

I just found that the heater on my 55G tank stuck on. Luckily I undersized the heater using only a 100W heater in a 55G FOWLR tank. The water temperature was about 88F. Luckily I did not lose anything. The manufacture offered to replace the heater since it was only 4 months old.
What type of heater does anyone recommend? I thought I bought one of the better submersible heaters?

I use the Acura (Marineland) submersible heaters. I have had no problems with these, and they are very acurate. Good luck

DO a search for heater on this MBS. There was a post a week ago discussing different heaters, from Ebo-Jager to Visitherm and lots of other brands.

I like the look of the won heater. It is titanium and the higher end one has a digital display and control.

I just got a Won Pro heater, as Q stated. It is sweet! It has a pretty much unbreakable titanium heater, and a digital temp display. Also the temp setting dial is mounted on the cord, not on top of the heater, talk about easy to adjust. I'll never use another heater.

I Like the idea of a titanium heater, No chance of broken glass. I thought I read that the Won Pro heaters need to be vertical. Has anhyone used them horizontally? I am looking for the best heater to put in a sump.

I heard that too, but when I got mine the instructions read that it can be placed vertically or horizontally. Mine is horizontal in my sump.

I just recently bought a new WON titanium heater and the instructions clearly say mount in a vertical postion only. I took it back to the LFS - this guy is pretty sharp and does know his stuff - he said he contacted WON and asked them about this. I was told by this guy that it does not matter if the unit is mounted in a vertical or horizontal position, and that some of the instructions included with these units were not written correctly. I still have the heater and my receipt ;) , but have yet to install it. I'm still not 100% sure without getting some feedback direct from WON, at least on the unit I have.
I plan to write them soon.
Which model/wattage do you have mal if you don't mind me asking ??

Here goes, right off the box. "Won Pro Heat II, IC Aquarium Heater" Mine is 250W model.
The directions say, "1. The heating tube can be placed in a vertical or horizontal position in the water."
Contacting Won is still a great idea, now you have me wondering what the printing error was....
The only difference I am aware of from the Pro Heat I, and II is the digital display thermometer on the cord. The I only has the adjustment knob, and the II has the thermometer also. It says it is accurate to + or - 1 deg F.

I use ebo-jager and never had any problems. You are going to get many different suggestions. Your best bet is try different ones and see what works for you through everyones suggestions.

One last point on these titanium heaters, and any submersible heater for that matter.
RenaCal makes a nice slotted protective cover that snaps onto the heater. I am installing mine in a rubbermaid sump, and decided to pop for the protective sleeve cover.
Had this daytime nightmare of the heater coming loose and melting a hole in the plastic sump.
Paranoid - maybe a little.
Cautious - a bit with my tanks
Cheap - no, but have been called easy before :p
