will i need a heater for this 12 gallon reef nano cube
12 GAL. DELUXE 15.8" x 13.8" x 14.8" Capacity 12 Gallons - Power: 24 watt lamp - Flow: 106 GPH - Life: .8m - Voltage: 110 - Submersible pump: 11 watt power consumption 24 GAL. DELUXE 18" x 19.6" x 19.7" Capacity 24 Gallons - Power: 72 watts - Flow: 290 GPH - Life: 1.3m - Voltage: 110
Set up the Nano Cube as a miniature reef or planted aquariumÛall the necessary equipment is included. These tanks have an excellent 3-stage filtration system built right into the back. A submersible pump circulates water through the filter and back into the tank nine times per hour. Includes two 24-watt (2-36 watt 24 gal), 50/50 compact fluorescent lamp. This is a glass tank with rounded front corners. Flip-top canopy allows easy maintenance and feeding. Two fans ensure cool operation
thanks

Josh,
sounds like your talking about a jbj 12 gallon deluxe nano - just like mine ............ as far as a heater - so far i haven't found a need for one yet ....during the day with the lid closed my tank reaches 81- 83 degrees as it is - i leave the access lid open to let the heat out and cool air circulate which drops and maintains a steady 79-81 degrees. not much room back there as it is to add a heater either unless you take something out - especially the bio balls - total waste of time in our small tanks i think. at night i close the lid and only run the moon lights and my tank still maintains a steady 79 degrees till morning.
do yourself a favor and ditch the original 106 gph pump and upgrade with a maxi-jet 900 ( 230 gph ) - really makes a difference and the upgrade requires no modifications either - 5 minute upgrade time .
if you find a way to add a protein skimmer - let ME know - ok ?
enjoy ...............

I have the regular 12 gallon JBJ nanocube and its stable at 78-80 degrees with no heater

you might be better off with the standard model than myself then heating from the lights might not be as much with your tank - maybe practice leaving your lights on longer or shorter - rather than investing in a " very - very - very " small heater ............most that small don't work well either. i would advise getting a digital thermometer with a remote probe though to monitor your temp.
possibly even with an alarm for danger wouldn't hurt either.
i'm gonna rearrange my L.R. one more time today - and promise to leave it alone after this .....lol
my 2 firefish are giving me that " LOOK " - if ya know what i mean ...lol

just the regular ole firefish to start with. this is my first attempt with a "reef nano " tank and i'm taking it very slow ................
i've had firefish before in my 175 gallon fish only tank but they seem to get lost in the crowd - so to speak !!!!!!!!!!!!!
really nice peaceful fish also - and can be grouped with several without friction or fighting.
finally ---made up my mind on the arrangement of live rock last night .......
gezzzzzzzzzzzzz - i'm soooooooo picky ...lol
i'll post picks tommorrow for you guys - tell me what ya think ............
maybe i shouldn't ask that question - i might be changing the look again ......lol
not ................!
this is it - !!
hhmmmmmmmmmmmm - i hope !
later guys !
