A lot of people do just that.
What wattage is your heater and what is the gph rating for your return pump including head pressure ?

you betcha, I have a 75 gal reef w/55gal sump. You just gotta make sure that you have enough water flow between the 2 (my 75 is running a mag 1200 (1000gph with head pressure)....and make sure the heater is big enough...many people put 2 in (1 kinda as a back up)
Hope that helps!!

That where mine are at. I have two in the sump. That way of one fails I always have a back uo running. Plus, with two in the sump they are not on all the time, so the heaters might last longer.

For 90g I would put in 2 under powered heaters. Say 2 150w = 300w I know someone who's heater went haywild. It stuck on! Fish and coral don't like 90 deg. water! everything gone. If 1 heater sticks the other will shut off. 150w wont over heat your 90g for a while if it even will. Something to think about.
