Do I need to have an additional heater in my sump or just the one DT? If I only need one can I put it in the sump to minimize what is in my DT?

This is a question I have too. I have heard you can put your heater in the return of your sump and you will be ok.

I have no heaters in any of my reef DTs, just in the sumps. It will work fine. However, I would suggest at least two small heaters versus one big one. That way if one heater goes out you have the second one as a back up. I set one heater for the temp I want to keep and the other two degrees below it.

That is great, I will go with that and give that a try. I appreciate it.

slider the joy of having a sump is to eliminate as much as possible. no heaters or filters hanging off. just make sure if it is one of the hangon ones that it stays submerged in water

I know, I can't wait for my overflow box to come in. I have everything else ready to go! Ready to clean my DT up some.
