I have a siimilar size tank and run three 250 watt heaters in the sump. It may be overkill, but I would suggest you run at least two. My theory...if one stops working the other one can pick up the slack. If you have only one and it fails you will have the potential for stressed or dying tank inhabitants.

If you are worried about using more electricity, set the 'back up one 2 degrees lower that your main one. It should then come on only in an emergency.

I have a 215 and use 1 250W heater. The # of heaters you actually need/use will depend on a few factors
1) How much lighting are you using?
2) What is your room temp.
3) Lids or no lids
Summer: I keep the room temp at 76. Heater set at 79. Tank runs at 80 and after lights out tank is at 81.
Winter: I keep the room at 70. Heater set at 79. Tank runs at 79 and after lights out up to 80.
The lights keep the tank warm so the heater does not have to work all that much even in the winter months.

Flow is also important for heaters; if the water is not moving quickly, the warm water will not be distributed throughout the tank, the heater will think the water is warm, and will then shut off. I would also definitely add another heater. In my 125, I had a 250W on both sides of the tank and a thermometer in the middle connected to my chiller. The heaters are really only for night as the chiller operates during the day.
