Heater

Unless you live in a place with a constant temperature of around 80 degrees, then yes, you do need one. :D

It depends. Lights and pumps add heat to a tank. And an acrylic tank retains heat for a long time. So a constant 80 degree room would give you a tank that is too warm. The heater is a way to balance the temp when lights are off, room temp down, etc. Personally I don't use a heater. But you'll have to find out what works best under your own conditions.

I think it also depends a lot on where you live. I live in the northern U.S. and it snowed a few hours ago. Even with a pump and such running in the tank, I wouldn't be sure the temperature would stay around 80. :D

I live in Indiana and the winter sucks. The temp. can change dramatically outside which used to effect my 7 gallon bow. I would put a 50 watt tronic or ebo in there at least. They are the best heaters IMO.
