I use predominately EBO-Jaeger or EHEIM-Jaegers..both actually the same heater. It may be true the titanium or stainless submersibles with external temp control are veryn popular, but I have never had problems with pyrex tubed submersibles yet, so why change..I do use a external heat controller though in conjunction with the XXX-Jaegers.

I use either Won Bros titanium heaters or the Jagers. The only problem I've ever had was a Won that stopped working. I've never had a Jager fail, and never had any heater fail-on.
Heaters with electronic controls are most likely to fail-off, while heater with mechanical controls are likely to fail-on. Either can be bad, and what Chipmaker is doing is a really good idea for anyone who has the funds. By using an extra temperature controller, you get some redundancy built in. I wish someone would make a cheap heater cutoff controller that just has a fixed maybe 85 degree cutoff with an alarm in case of heater malfunction.
No heater can ever be guaranteed not to fail, so finding a "proven" heater is impossible.

The best heaters by far, Jalli, hands down IMO.
I have used many different heaters of many types for mostly freshwater and a few for saltwater and none even compare to Jalli. Also I would never use any heater that won't shut off on its own when water is not on it, or one that has digital or any electronic controls on the unit.

There were Ebo's at the distributor where I worked that had been in constant use for over 20 years. The system was constantly topped off with unheated water, probably at least 10% a day, so they really had to work hard too.

I use 2 Rena Cal Top Light Excel heaters, I am pretty new 2 the hobby so my vote probably doesn't count that much... but going on 3 months and no problems, although I dropped one

EBO's were the main stay of european fish keepers for years and still are. Its a very high quality product that is reliable.
