heaters failing

Anyone have problems with heaters failing(shorting out) or temp. inaccuracy. My Rena Cal heater tripped out the GFI on my system. My replacement(I went with a different brand on purpose) Acura heater needs to be set at 88 for it to come on with the water temp. at 78. Can anyone recommend a good reliable heater?

Surprised to hear your problem. I have used only Acuras and the better Rena heaters for the last 7 years and never had a failure with them ( they are on all my 10 tanks). The Acuras I found set at 74 keep things at 78 (the one degree accuracy is a myth I'm afraid, only 1 of them at 78 keeps it at 78). The Rena's are also off a bit at 74 they keep at 78-79. I know Rena makes 2 models the ones I use are the Excel model. All I can say is you got a bad one. Over the years I have tried others but always came back to the Acura and then after they came out the Rena's.
