Heating

Ok well if you dont knwo I took apart my FW tank. Now I want to use the heater from it and use it in my SW tank(30gal). I've already cleaned it, but the other day I read that you have to acclimate it to the tank? What should I do, just add it in and let it sit for 30mins or something, then turn it on?
Also what degree should I maintain the tank at.
30 gal
2 yellowheaded Jawfish
1 Damsel(electric blue)(caught both dominos)
20#'s LR
3 inches of argonite sand.
Even though I live i nFL, my mother dropped the temp in the house to 75 degrees, and my tank is alittle cold. ShouldI push it up to 79 slowly? up to 80?82?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's at 74 degrees....
So mainly just put the heater in the tank, but make sure the heater has cooled down. Correct?
I should bump the temp up slowly, right?

Exactly :)
Plus, when you do water changes, if you are bringing the level down below a certain point on the heater, you should be turning it off...
It is dangerous to leave the heater on, without it being under water...

I'm hoping that it is a submersible!!! if not keep an eye on it cause salt can build up on the contacts in the heater causing your tank to get hot hot hot hot hot, get the point!!!!!?????
