I got home from work today a wham marron clown with ick. He has been fine for about three month 's then this happen's. what could cause ick if there was not any present before?

Hello and welcome to the board, sorry your first post had to be about ick.
ICK is a parasitic disease caused by a one-celled organism known as a protozoan. Those little bugs can block off circulation around the gills. How it entered your tank is beyond me at this point unless you were to tell me more about your tank. Stress can cause it, perhaps using water that came from your LFS could introduce it. Improper quarentene procedures.
Your best bet is to talk to Terry B or Beth in the Desease and Treatment forum. I can move your thead there if you like or you can start another.

THe ich may have been present in your system all along or recently introduced. What caused it to come out is most likely some kind of stress.
Did you have a large swing in parameters (temp,pH,salinity)? Maybe stray voltage? New fish added?
Hard to say with out more info.
