Help a newbie photographer

Ok, I picked up a canon powershot s50 recently, but i'm, well, dumb when it comes to all the millions of settings on this thing.
I'm trying to get good close up shots, but everything comes out a bit blurry. What settings can I change to help with close up shots?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yep, it's got a macro function, and I think i've figured that out for the most part. It's the f-stop and shutter speed I'm trying to figure out, and the lighting settings. Not sure what would be good for Aquarium photo shots, or close up shots.
