What type of seahorses do you have? Alot depends on the type and whether they are standard or dwarf.

my son's seahorses gave birth to about 30 babies this morning. I shut down the filter for now. what else can I do? should I separate them from the mom and dad. They show no interest in eating there young. I hand fed the mom and dad a ton of brine so they are pretty full. There are no other fish in the tank, just a manderin and some hermit and emerald crabs. The ponies are swiming around at the surface. I dimined some of the lighting. The mom and dad are local caught black standard type of sea horses not dwarfs. Thanks for any help.

You may want to watch out for the hermit and emerald crabs as they may try to eat the babies.Get a sponge to cover the filter and powerhead intakes(If you have a powerhead)
Turn the filter back on after it is covered.
I have never delt with babies before so sorry I am not much help.

Runn,
I replied to your post under mine for Filter Covers. I left what we thought were our babies in our tank. Like I said though we believe he delivered early. If there little babies that look like the adults leave them in the tank or get a small 2 gal or something similar and a sponge filter and run it it the tank.

If the are the large type of horses, you can not raise them with the adults. They need a sterle 10 gal tank with a sponge filter and depending on the type, either rotifers or bbs to eat. if they are southern Erectus they need tiny little hitches as this type hitch at birth. all others do not hitch so you need an air line at the surface of the water so they do not snick air.
A light should be kept at the side of the tank to keep the food below the surface thus keeping the babies low in the water. Thier tank must be kept very clean so you will need to syphone left over food out and add new water several times a day.
This is not all there is to keeping babies but its a start.
Google seahorse fry and read eveything you can

ok thanks. i forgot what type they are but i have pictures of them posted under one of my threads. there in a 2 gallon hex i got from *****. it has one of those filters that are one the bottom and are suppose to go through gravel but no gravel is in there now. there are also some plastic plants that are in there and a bubble stone. i kinked the air hose though because it looked like the little fry were getting tossed around. some are kind of squirming at the top while others swim around the whole tank. is this normal? and some were also exposed to the air accidently. will these still live?
