I noticed today that my branching montipora was stung at the tip of one of its branches, and now the top 1" or so is white. Do I need to cut that portion off to prevent it from getting worse or will it heal itself?

Unfortunately, montiporas are very susceptible to taking heavy damage from other corals. I would carefully cut that branch at a safe point to take out any risk of it spreading.
