Help: Do triggers eat clams?

Hi I just added two clams to my tank and as soon as my trigger (orange-lined) saw one he started nipping at it..is it just being curious or do trigger eat clams..

Okay I moved the clams to a safe place.. I am going to fish the trigger and put him in the sump. Upon inspecting the clams, the was that was being bothered by the trigger had a small part of it eaten at one of the corners :( does this heal?

Well if he started chewing on it immediently...

that devil is in my sump now..never again is he going to any of my DTs. I have lost way too many fish, inverts, and now clams to him..
So would the clam recover from a bite?

Yes it may take time, but it should heal.

why dont you get (make) like a plastic grate or something to protect the clams so yo have the best of both worlds?
