Hey,
If you are new to saltwater I would suggest that you start with something larger than 10gal. It can be done but it's a LOT harder to keep your water stable. If you are determined to go that small, do a search on nano systems, or nano tanks and you should get all the info you need. I would recommend you start with a 55gal, or larger if you can afford it. Morning,
Are you sure you want to go to so much bother for a 10 gallon? I feel with such a small tank that your water would be very difficult to keep in safe paramiters. Also in my opinon most of the really pretty fish etc. would get to big for just a 10. Here is an idea, maybe you should do some reading and studying up on the hobby first, this board is a very good place to start, while you are in the learning mode you could be saving up for a bigger tank.
good luck with whatever you decide

do not misunderstand me, 10's can be done and are beautiful but:
small tanks are alot of work esp for those learning the hobby 55 to 125 rects are the best beginner tanks, but somtimes budget and space does not always allow, it is best to get the biggest footprint(l x w)that can be afforded(keep in mind this also means more sand, lr, powerheads and skimmer),10 gal can be neat, but are extremely difficult to maintain(even for the veteran they are a lot of work)
ina ddition, most fish require at least 20 gallons of water, ao maybe there would be 3 or 4 choices of fish for you to choose, here again the bigger the tank the more choices(some need 100+gallons)

Hi, well you will just have to be very diligent with the 10 gal. Being a newbie, it might be a bit much, also you will only be able to keep one small fish in there. But it you would like to go ahead check this site out. http://www.nano-reef.com/
