I am running a 55 gal tank with two damsels. All peramiters are fine except for alkaline. I can't give you a number because I use red sea test kit and it doesn't give you numbers. It just sais that it is very high. How can I get it down to normal??? Any help will be greatly appreciated. What will this do to fish??

my kit came with an alk adjuster. you just add some drops, and follow the directions. It will lower your alk pretty good. I use red sea, and I don't think that the alk is always that accurite. I would take a sample to the lfs and have them test your water. In the test kit, mine, came with a pamphlet that said signs and symptoms that the fish are being affected by the alk. Read the little pamphlet. That might help. Then you need to find out what has caused the alk to increase, so that you don't have this problem in the future. I don't know much about alk, so here are some starters, and a bump for you. Hope that helps,

Be careful with bumping your Alk up and down based on a "color" test rather than accurate numbers...
I mean what is "Very high" anyway...? compared to "Too high" or "Just right" (sounds like the Three Bears...:D )
If you mix a batch of RO water and Salt (like for a water change) and test that you should get a good "color" indication of what a good Alk level "looks" like...
And then take that batch of water and do a partial water change with it...At this point that would be the best way to lower Alk levels (as well as bring calcium and other elements in line)
Alk levels are related to Calcium levels and that balance shows in pH levels...They are all interrelated... Do some "research in the "Reef Forum" for ALK 101 and get some good test kits before doseing/adding/buffering/lowering anything...
Again at this point just regular Partial Water Changes will keep things in line, until you are ready to "play chemist" in your tank.
Be cool, It'll come to you...it's too easy to make things worse until you know the "What's and Why's of keeping water balanced...
(and it's really not that hard once you do...)
