Hello,
My name is Amanda. I am TOTALLY NEW to saltwater. I have had mine for 2-3 months now and just got a carpet anemone for my two percula clows. They have hosted (or started living) in the anemone but a few days ago the anemone looked like it was "closing up" little by little. My boyfrien thought my tank didn't have enough flow for the two corals I have in there so he siad we should get a power head (does 1300 gph). after about a day or so I noticed, the "shrivling". I did A LITTLE research and immediately jumped to me not feeding it. So i just now gave it a whole frozen cube of brine shrimp......and now that I'm actually reading a bit more, I'm wondering a) do I have too much flow (because even the kenyi tree won't open up, so I turned the powerhead back off) and b) did I just send my anemone a death notice because I gave it too much and didn't thaw it?!??!??!!! .....it did take the cube but I think it just now "regurgitated" it.... :-/ HELP!!!

Can you post pics? If you can, I would take the anemone back. It sounds like it might not be happy in your tank.

To get more help from people that no more then me they need to know your water parameters. They need tank size filtration lights and all the info you can give to get help.

Hi, Welcome to the site...sorry it's under these circumstances.
Morgan is correct....we need to know more informtion to be able to help:
How strong are your lights? Anemones need very strong lighting. All anemones periodically close up and expel their water, then they reinflate. Always rinse your frozen food cube under running fresh water, it thaws the food and rinses it. Use a net, put the cube in it, and just hold it under the water flow until it is thawed. The frozen cube will not harm the anemone, but it may be why it spit it out.
An unhappy anemone is a traveling anemone. If the critter stays put it likes it's spot. However if you don't have enough light it will die. They are also very sensitive to poor water quality. So we need to know your water test readings...use lab type kits, not test strips.

Careful with that anemone... Carpets have been known for eating fish.
If it were me (but its not) I would take the Nem back. Once the tank is a year old or so and you have great water conditions, then maybe consider adding one.
What type of lighting do you have? Filtration? What size tank??
The water looks like it has a bit of a yellow ting to it. It may just be the camera or the glass. Do you run carbon?
Welcome to the site. I hope you get a chance to stick around. There are lots of good friendly people around here that love to help.

I went to go get my water tested today but the gentleman at my LFS that does it was not in today....I had it tested when I got the clowns about a month ago and I guess I had stellar readings (he didn;t give exact numbers but told me everything was where it should be). I have not changed how I have been doing things to it since then but it did do a brown algea (i think is what it was called) about two weeks before i added the anemone (I wanted to wait for it to be gone before even thouhg every person I asked said this cycle was normal for a healthy tank to go through and it was ok for you to add things). I can tell you that it is a 55 gallon tank and I don't have a canister filter (saving money to get one though) I have the type of fiter that you normally see on freshwater tanks (Whisper brand taht does 90 gallons and hour I believe) but I DO NOT run carbon through it. They yellow tinge I think was from the camera or possibly because I took the photo at 5am in dim light as my "other half" was sleeping (in person it's crystal clear). for lighting I have a Coralife T-5 dual lamp fixture. I got it from my LFS but I threw the box out so according to Dr. Foster and Smith's website this light is supposed to be 108 watts with 54 watts on the day bulb and 54 watts on the actinic blue bulb........hope I give you what you were looking for.....I'll go to the other store by me tomorrow and have my water tested there and let you guys know what they say......I did try feeding my anemone today again (just now) but a small (live) gold fish and it seemed to like that much better!! (didn't spit it up and it seems to have opened up slightly....I'll take another pic in a few hours and post to see if much changes........p.s. should I have been doing water changes as often as we do our freshwater tanks (every other week to 2 weeks??) up until now I have NOT done a water change for the simple fact that I'm afraid to kill the fish in the process as I understand they are quite a bit more touchy thank freshwater........is it the same process only now I have to mix new saltwater to the correct specific gravity after taking out about 1/4 of the old water?? I'm sorry of I'm asking so moany "silly" questions......just doesn't seem to be very many "experienced" saltwater people out in my area to help.... :-/

If I was you id try a bubble tip anemone first. Carpets are hard to take care off and you have to know what your doing
