i woke up this morning and my brother asked who painted part of your tank white, i went to look at it and water had leaked all over the side of the stand making it look dark (the stand is not stained or painted) so the dry spot was what he thought was painted....anyway i am pretty sure it was my protein skimmer leakin but it seemed like a lot of water, so until it dries i was wondering how long i could keep the skimmer off it is a 100 gal tank w/ 60lbs LR and bio ball filtration? If anyone cares the water leaked so much that the end of my stand were the wood meets at a 90 degree angle seperated a little bit(on the top not were the side peices meet)sucks it looks really ugly to me now

i would dry everywhere there is a seal on the tank such as the bottom and the sides and see if any water starts coming out, to try and find the location of the leek, but if it keeps leaking you would have to take out your lr,ls,fish and corals out and put them all in buckets and get a new tank.

im pretty sure it was the protein skimmer and the water just traveled along the stand, i might still have to look for leaks but the back of my tank is inaccessible i can look at the front and sides but not the back it is to close to the wall. tank is to heavy to move also i am afraid to try to move it with water in it

Is your skimmer a hang on type and was it full? Hopefully it was overfilled and the tank doesn't have a leak.
If your water damage is not too bad maybe you can sand and paint the stand.

Did you empty your collection cup on the skimmer ? Sometimes you have to empty it 2-3 times a day.

I touched up my stand a while ago. I covered the top and everywhere thats open to air, covered my wetdry filter too and had the doors closed. Used masking tape and newspaper. Opened the windows and put a fan towards the stand. I spraypainted for like 30 min and my fish didn't even change color. I also threw a big bag of carbon in the filter.
I seen some posts about some people here that paint the back of their tanks while fish are still in it. I think the hardest part would be the edge of the bottom trim and you might even be able to scratch the paint off if you get some on it.
But you should do more research on it just to be safe. I wouldn't want you to kill everything in your tank.

it was a seaclone skimmer but i have had it for 8 months and it has been working really well, unless you are referring to a problem with the seal on the seaclone
