or feahter dusters? I have a whole bunch of these littly reddish brown feather dusters/anemones/polyps growing on my live rock. They seem to grow in clusters. They are all about 1/4" tall or smaller. I can see about 7 or 8 "tentacles" coming off of them. The tents. blow in the current like a polyp. When I touch them, they don't go down into the rock, the go down into what looks like a tiny tube. The tentacles seem to have rough edges on them. They don't have a center disc either. All the tentacles come together into a point on the stem. Any ideas?

See, they dont really look like an aptasia. They don't have a lot of tentacles and they are really small......not more than 1/4". They only have like 7 or 8 tentacles.
Anyway, if they so happen to turn out to be aptasias, will a peppermint shrimp get along with a cleaner shrimp in a 25 gallon?
But, they look like some kind of filter feeder. hmm, maybe I should just use stop aptasia on all of them just in case.

I've noticed a similar growth in the last few weeks. As if a "field" of them were planted. Do yours look like tiny tube worms but both the stem and "feathers" are the same color. Really tiny and standing straight up?
If so I've got them going and I don't think they're aptasia either, but, I'd love to know what they are.
I'd take a picture but they're so small and in the center of the tank that a picture just wouldn't be enough help.

No worries. It is called a tree polyp or stick polyp. I have ar ock full of them and the spread like wildfire. They are pretty cool. Don't let htem grow near any nice corals because they can sting them. I had some near a staghorn coral and it made it white were the polyps touched it. It turned back to normal color after I got rid of it.

Yes, mine are exactly like you said.
A tree polyp eh? I'll keep my eye on them. But I did some research and I don't think they are tree polyps/stick polyps. I'll do some more research on them. Thanks for the info guys. I just love this site. I'll keep them from my corals too.

According to the iformation I got off of the website I located them at, they are stick/tree polyps. I found the info at ***********.com.

Yeah, I saw that at ***********.com too, but they don't look like that. They don't have that many tentacles. I'll try to get a pic this weekend.

sounds to me like they are aptasia. I had so many spawning in my reef tank I started getting different color mixes. Before I found out what they were I thought it was cool . I had brown and white striped, curly tenticles ect. They grew to be huge and then one ate a small fish.
hope its not ..but good luck

I don't know guys...sounds more like they are simply those tiny feather duster worms you usually get on LR; but no one has posted pics of those yet...I would, but I don't have any available or know off hand where to direct...if you were to do a search for feather duster worms, it would most likely return w/ results being that for the common hawaiian feather dusters or maybe the christmas tree worms...do they tend to be on short tubes/stalks w/ a feather duster looking "crown" extended???
