I have a 45 g tank for about a year. two months ago i notice that my LR is turning dark brown almost black color. I posted before asking about the problem and they told me that it was diatoms and how to get rid of it. After that I cleaned all my LR, put an extra power head and bought something to removed the phosphate in the water. Now the LR is turning the same dark color again
-What sould i do now?

- The rosk is still alive?
HELP ME

Hermit crabs eat brown algae. My rocks were looking ..how do I say it?...old.
My calcium was way high...purple up was not my friend. So if it is diatoms get some hermits, if the rock just looks "OLD" check your calcium.

is the rock turning dark or is something growing on it?
if something is growing on it can you suck it off with a syphon or is it a hard surface?

Something is growing on the rock...is very easy to remove. when i removed from the rock they look clean althought some parts of the rock have really dark spots (the part of the rock that faces up) that i cant get rid of it anymore even if i scrape it it wont come out.
Do you think the rock is still alive?
thanks you for your help

when you scrape it off, does it come off in large pieces? Kinda sounds like slime algae. what type of lights are you running?

Hermits don't need any special lights. Diatoms are brown algae.
However...if you push water at it from a turkey baster (not your moms or wife’s for cooking) does it make a storm cloud, like dust flying?
Because it sounds like what happens to rocks if the power heads are not adjusted to clean them off. It is kind of like co
ebs that grow in your house on the ceiling.

No. just ugly. More current will get it to suspend in the water so your filters can remove it. Do you run power heads?

bingo light problem.you cant just put any light on a tank.certain spectrum bulbs are needed or algea will come and go.if you had no light but sunlight on it coming through the window algea will grow like crazy.
i dont use light on myqt and never even had new tank bloom.on my 250 gallon i only run the pc lights all day and the mh 4 hrs.if i were to run the mh all day the tank would get an algea bloom.

I agree. Lighting is probably the problem.
Try getting bulbs made for aquariums. This should help.
Also, replace your bulbs as recommended. The quality of the light a bulb omits deteriorates over time.
