Help me choose the quitest set-up

I have a 75 gallon reef tank in my bedroom. I currently have a 20 gallon sump with bio-balls with a Quietone 3000 pump. I have been adjusting and trying different pumps, but still the overflow and the pump make too much noise(for my wife).
I want to get away from the bio-balls, and make the system as simple and quiet as possible. From the overflow to the return. Thanks for any help.

Earplugs are a good setup.
Turf scrubbers also make little noise, only sound would be the return pump. Place a mouse pad underneath it. And pad the inside of the stand so it soaks up some noise.

1.Raise you overflow pipe up so you dont get that draining sound.
2.Put the drain line directly in the water in the sump.
I have a quiet3000 I can barely hear it. My skimmer make more noise then anything.

How big is your OF and your plumbing?
I agree with putting it directly in the water. Getting rid of bio balls and replacing them with LR is the same thing.IMO. Maybe you could post a pic of your sump.
Tell us a little more about the tank.
How is the return plumbed? This matters as a way for us to tell how much GPH your are returning to the display.
How is the tank plumbed for the drains? This matters as if you have too many bends and turns to make it noisy.
IDK, it is hard to say how you can make it quiet.
But.....to respond to how you posted. Do a herbie or a BeanAnimal drain setup. They will have a siphon as the main drain. It doesn't get much more quiet then that.

Personally live rock over bio balls, just one mans opinion.
I want to do live rock rather than bio-balls, too. Do I have to have a light over the sump for the live rock? Or can I just replace my bio-balls with LR?

Okay, I have made a LR sump, and the pump is quiet. However, I cannot get the herbie style siphon to work smoothly. I have used the larger pipe, 1.25 inches instead of one inch, and I have drilled small holes in the cap. But, I can't find the point that is between uneven draining and loud sucking.

I use canister filters for my tank...no noise at all. The only sound my tank makes is when my ice cap fans kick on high from the heat created by the MH lights.
You could get a canister to run at night when you sleep. They are self contained, just two pipes..intake and output.

A siphon doesn't have any holes in it. You dont want any air in the siphon. How far do you have the siphon submerged? It should only go about an inch under the water.
